Should I go on a normal resort vacation or a cruise?

Me and my next of kin want to on a vacation over new years. We can't decide if we want to go to a resort in either cancun or the bahamas, or go on a caribbean cruise. Which one would you do and why? And if anyone knows about new years in cancun, bahamas,
